Pienza, Val d'Orcia
Pienza, in central Tuscany, is a UNESCO World Heritage site; the Val d'Orcia is a World Heritage Landscape.
The town was redesigned and rebuilt by Pope Pius II in the 1400s to be the ideal Renaissance community, i.e. a practical example of humanistic urban planning. It maintains that era (within the tourist context). The landscapes in Val d'Orcia are the most iconic in Tuscany.
